Alarm 20/20

Context: I encountered an actual physical alarm, at a close proximity, in a moment of quiet in the woods. Upon hearing it I ran to find my partner and sort out what emergency was being communicated only to learn that this siren sounds everyday at noon as a test and nostalgic tribute to times past when it would call lunch for factories and farm fields. The feeling of urgent alarm held such a likeness to my internal state, the national state: an alarm for an emergency, an alarm to wake the fuck up, calling for action and attention and then fading into an elongated drone, and then purr to “normal” or expected soundscapes. Standing in a heightened state of uncertainty: the alarm had sounded and will sound again. Some people have encountered this alarm and some will never hear or feel it.
